Adoption Policy

How to Meet One of Our Adoptable Pets: Since we don’t have a shelter, all our pets are fostered in private homes. Please contact us at 748-6677 and let us know which pet you're interested in. We'll make arrangements for you to meet the pet.

Age of Adopter: You must be an adult age 18 and over to apply for adoption.

References: Potential adopters will be asked to provide the name of their veterinarian who we can contact before the adoption is approved.

Adoption Application and Contract: All adopters will be required to fill out an adoption application and sign a contract, which is legally binding. Our adoption contract reads:

I will keep my pet indoors at all times in order to keep him/her safe (unless an exception has been made by the rescue.) I will give my pet proper housing, food, water, exercise and humane treatment.

I will provide my pet with veterinary treatment when necessary. If not already done, I will have him or her spayed/neutered when old enough (included in the adoption fee).

Signing this contract obliges me to return the pet to Virden Pet Network if I cannot keep it. I will NOT sell, give away, neglect, abandon or euthanize it.

I accept the pet "as is" and understand that adopted pets may have pre-existing health conditions.

Adoption Fees:

=>Adults Cats: $50
=>Kittens (under 1 year): $75
=>Dogs & Puppies: $150

Our low adoption fees help offset some of our costs, such as vaccinations and spay/neuter. If a pet is adopted before it has been spayed/neutered, adopters will receive a certificate that entitles them to have the procedure done at no cost. Adoptions fees are subject to change without notice.

Spay/Neuter: In order to help prevent unwanted litters, having your pet spayed or neutered is a mandatory condition of adoption if it hasn’t already been done. We will follow up with adopters to ensure compliance.

Settling In: After you pick up your new pet, we encourage you to maintain contact with us or your veterinarian in case you have questions about integrating the pet into your home with minimal stress. The settling-in process can take a few hours or several weeks, depending on the circumstances.

We ask you to be patient with your new family member, give them at least one week to settle in, and don’t hesitate to call and ask us for assistance.
